A local occupational license is required for most businesses. Licenses are issued by the City of Florida City and Miami-Dade County. Licenses must be renewed each year, as all occupational licenses expire on September 30th each year. The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for enforcement and levy of fines should you fail to obtain an occupational license.

Florida City's Code Enforcement Department holds the responsibility for insuring that residents comply with appropriate regulations and  living standards.

The City of Florida City has adopted a Zoning Code which regulates the use, size and location of buildings and other structures within the city.
